ProQuest Publicly Available Content Database
Designed to complement other databases and collections, this multidisciplinary database provides links to full text for public content from a range of different sources, all of which are open access or unlicensed. It includes content from main topic stores such as ArXiv, as well as open access journals. Content includes journal articles, preprints, books, conference reports, and reports.
Evaluated scope of quality scientific open access resources
Access and use hundreds of trusted, scientifically open access headers. Potentially problematic publications that do not comply with ProQuest's broadcasting rules are excluded.
Easily identify open access content
Open access journals in ProQuest databases are primarily determined on the basis of inclusion in DOAJ or YOL. This includes content from publishers or sources known to be publicly available. In the list of results on the ProQuest platform, an Open Access icon will appear for any article in this database (note that this indicator will not be included at the beginning of the database for some titles to fill in). Note that individual open access articles in non-OA journals and non-scientific public sources such as government documents and news are not included.
Links to full text when not on the platform
Full-text articles for many journals are fully researchable and available on the ProQuest platform. Where there is no full text inside the platform, there are direct open and reliable links to external full text.
Full text for unauthenticated users
The full text of this publicly available content is not limited when users connect through Google Scholar consistent with their public status.
Link to other external open access content in citation records
Although it is not part of the Generally Available Content Database, with the release of this database, a related development on the platform provides an indication of dynamic connections to external OA resources based on EA status and AI resources. This helps users find the full public text for OA articles published in the journal, which are not completely clear to them and are published in journals that do not license the full text of articles to ProQuest.
More than 90% of the content comes from more than 70 countries outside North America.
